Ryazan, some 2hrs from Moscow by train is of interest for its Kremlin, its art museum which contains a fine selection of Russian paintings and the museum dedicated to the leading Severe Style artist of the 1960's, Victor Ivanov. Ivanov spent his summers in the Ryazan region (where his mother came from) and many of his best paintings are of the Oka river and its surroundings.
