Yesterday, the Kandinsky Prize 2013 (the Russian award established in 2007 in Moscow on Shalva Breus’ initiative, publisher of ArtChronika magazine and president of the eponymous cultural foundation) and its international jury team announced the winners. The Project of the year (40.000 Euros) went to Irina Nakhova for Without a Title, while the Young Artist of the year (10.000 Euros) went to Tim Parchikov for Times New Roman. Episode III: Moscow and Evgeny Granilschikov for Positions. The jury included, from Russia: art historian Evgeny Barabanov, art researcher Ekaterina Bobrinskaya, director of MAMM museum Olga Sviblova, director of MMOMA museum Vasily Tsereteli; from the UK: art curator Ute Meta Bauer and art historian and curator David Thorp; from the US: art historian and curator Alla Rozenfeld.

In concurrance with the Kandinsky Prize, from December 12 to 15, eight Moscow and Saint Petersburg galleries unite their forces for the Art Space Event — the second art weekend of the year, held in Moscow in the cultural institution Gogol Centre.

Each of the galleries, participating with its own program and art concept — AL gallery, ART re.FLEX gallery, Kultproekt gallery, Komnata gallery (Saint Petersburg), Galerie Iragui, RuArts gallery, Open Gallery, Everything is Art gallery (Moscow) — plays a vital role in the creation of a professional structural environment on the urban level, while presenting Russian contemporary art within the international scenario. These young but prominent Russian galleries try to revaluate the Russian contemporary art system within an international high-profile art scene.

Additionally, II AS Event presents special galleries’ projects and a series of lectures on the international integration of the Russian contemporary art market, which is gradually moving towards a collaboration between the public and the private spheres. Among the artists present in AS Event are Olga Bozhko, Irina Korina, Victor Lukin, Andrey Kuzkin, Daria Krotova, Valeria Nibiru, Sergey Katran.
